www.facebook.com TRAINING ZONES Healthy Heart Zone (Warm up) — 50 – 60% of maximum heart rate: The easiest zone and probably the best zone for people just starting a fitness program. It can also be used as a warm up for more serious walkers. This zone has been shown to help decrease body fat, blood pressure and cholesterol. It also decreases the risk of degenerative diseases and has a low risk of injury. 85% of calories burned in this zone are fats! Fitness Zone (Fat Burning) — 60 – 70% of maximum heart rate: This zone provides the same benefits as the healthy heart zone, but is more intense and burns more total calories. The percent of fat calories is still 85%. Aerobic Zone (Endurance Training) — 70 – 80% of maximum heart rate: The aerobic zone will improve your cardiovascular and respiratory system AND increase the size and strength of your heart. This is the preferred zone if you are training for an endurance event. More calories are burned with 50% from fat. Anaerobic Zone (Performance Training) — 80 – 90% of maximum heart rate: Benefits of this zone include an improved VO2 maximum (the highest amount of oxygen one can consume during exercise) and thus an improved cardiorespiratory system, and a higher lactate tolerance ability which means your endurance will improve and you’ll be able to fight fatigue better. This is a high intensity zone burning more calories, 15 % from fat. Red Line (Maximum Effort) — 90 – 100% of maximum heart rate: Although this zone

Get Your Heart Rate Up

Polar Strength Training Guidance

Learn how to improve your strength training workouts using the unique Polar feature, Strength Training Guidance. This feature is found exclusively on the Polar FT80. Full transcript: Hi. This is Chris with Polar USA. Welcome to another installment in our series with Polar Unique Features. As most of you know, strength training is an important part of any exercise program, but for many, there is a struggle to improve. So Polar developed a strength training guidance feature that helps you get better results in less time. Strength training guidance tells you how long to rest between each set and is based on your heart rate and how quickly you recover. In fact, studies have shown that heart rate based recovery improves strength more than traditional training recovery periods. This feature is available on the FT80. Today we’re going to walk you through the step-by-step process of using strength training guidance. Michael will demonstrate this. To get started, you can either download a workout program from Polarpersonaltrainer.com, or if you don’t have the time, the FT80 will still guide you in your strength graining. First, Michael presses Okay, then presses Down to start strength training. Then, he presses Okay twice, and Start Workout will appear on the display. Choose Yes, and press Okay. And he can now begin his first set. Once Michael has completed his set, his training computer tells him his optimal recovery line. While he waits, he can see when the heart rate graph hits

STUPID & SMART EXERCISE: INTROdougTION

Let me fan the flame with some of my favorite provable truths. Yes, in my humble yet accurate and substantiatable opinion, the following statements are true • Flexibility is the least important component of fitness. • Dieting is one of the primary causes of obesity in America. • Losing weight actually decreases your body’s metabolic rate. • The activity which burns the highest percentage of fat is sleep. • The “Cardio Zone” burns more fat than the “Fat-Burning Zone.” • Stretching is a very dangerous form of warming up before exercise. • To gain muscle, you should stop lifting weights and work out less often. • Increasing aerobic exercise is associated with a decrease in metabolic rate. • Heart rate is, for many individuals, one of the worst indicators of exercise intensity. • High protein diets are often the cause of many of the major health-related problems in America. • Gaining weight initially is a very important indication that your exercise program is working as planned. • Aerobic exercise classes are much less aerobic than other aerobic activities
