Getting Started with the Polar Move

A quick video to show you the basics of getting started with the Polar Move Soyou just got home with your brand new heart rate monitor and not sure what to do next. Heart rate training can be an important part of any workout program, but like most new training tools if you are not using the tool correctly you could have trouble fully maximizing it. So in this document we pulled together some information and links from PolarUSA.com to get you started. Introduction to Heart Rate Based Training If you are new to exercising, I can almost guarantee you are wondering how much and in which intensities you should train. If you go too hard and you run the risk of burning yourself out quickly. If you go too slow you may not see results. The key is to find the balance between exercise and recovery, and the best way to gauge that is a heart rate monitor. Take a look at the following links to get you started: Intro to Heart Rate Training – bit.ly Structure of A Workout Session – bit.ly Aerobic and Anaerobic Exercise – bit.ly Part of finding that balance is to understand and utilize different heart rate zones based on your personal goals. Polar has a few unique features built into certain training computers that help you find these zones, like Energy Pointer(FT7,FT40) and Ownzone(FT60,FT80). But if you aren’t using these “Own” features you can still take advantage training zones. Calculating Maximum Heart Rate The first thing to do would be to find your Maximum Heart rate(MHR). You

There are so many out there, all with mixed reviews, I just don’t know which to try. I am looking for a HRM that does a continuous rate, that calculates burned calories, and that you can input your age, gender, weight and height. It of course also needs to be reliable. Any suggestions?

Getting Started with the RS800CX

A quick video to show you how to get started with the Polar RS800CX within minutes.

How many calories do I burn on a stationary bike?

When I put the figures of my workout into online calculators I get between 700-900 calories per hour. However, the bike says more like between 200-300 calories per hour. So, I went and bought a heart rate monitor. Last night I did 50 minutes on the bike (workload set to 10 pedal speed above 100 the whole time) and my HRM said I burned 803 calories in 50 minutes. So what do I believe? The HRM and all of the online calculators or the stationary bike itself? I know it sounds crazy because I should believe the HRM and the online calculators since they are all basically around the same. Just would like some other opinions I guess.

I want one that is water proof, that right there is a mucking important feature that the device better have. A second question, what is the difference between a wrist watch HRM and one that goes around the paracardium region?

I gave up on my old HRM a while ago, and decided to buy a new one. I got on a fitness equipment review site, and selected a well reviewed model. Now this new HRM is giving me trouble also. I’m rather frustrated because I consider hitting my target heart rate to be an important part of my fitness program. I’ve changed the batteries. I’ve done what I could to clean the contacts, and the area of skin the contacts are put over. I’ve even used Clearasil figuring that it’s skin oil and dirt cleansing qualities might help, and bought electro-conductive gel from a medical supply. I’m considering calling the manufacturers; but I’m afraid that it’s not the HRM, but me that’s the problem. This is the second HRM this has happened with after all. (It would work fine for the first couple months then it would get less and less reliable.) I’m afraid there’s residues in my sweat that are killing electro-conductivity. Please help.
Son of a… Your suggestion actually worked, TheDuck. At least as far as lately I couldn’t even get the HRM to give me a heart rate at all. I put it on. It gave me a heart rate soon enough; and continued to give me a heart rate for several minutes. It stopped working just now. Not %100 encouraging. Not least of all since I still don’t know what the greater problem was; and that seems to be deteriorating. I used a partially soaked Under Armor shirt, which naturally was freezing as I put it on. I’ll try it tomorrow for a workout. The critical thing is getting a full workout out of the HRM without it crapping out on me. Even if that works, there’s no guarrantees it will work again the next day, or a week from now.
Apology accepted Ubermind. I’m afraid that’s not anything not well known by users of HRMs. After all I’ve yet to hear of an HRM working dry. I don’t think that Clearasil could cause a problem. Certainly I’ve only recently started using the Clearasil, and only in the hope that it would help. It should cleanse the skin of things that might interfere with electro-conductivity. It’s not like I’m exposed to anything environmental. What’s on my skin is what got there through my pores, residues from evaporated sweat. After that wet sweat from the exercise should be fine.
Sorry TheDuck, I got ready for my workout, put on the soaked shirt, now luke warm after being put under scalding hot water, put on the chest band, and turned on the HRM. After waiting a couple minutes the watch gave up on getting a heart rate. Unless someone can offer another suggestion, I guess I’m going to have to call the manufacturers. Here’s hoping I just have bad luck with receiving defective HRMs.

Heart Rate Monitor Watch Waterproof Timex Ironman Triathlon Watch Record 50 Lap Accurately records Heart Rate during you activity

Is my weight loss plan ok?

I have 7 weeks and 7kg to lose until i meet my goal weight.
I am 62kg or 137lbs.
I am 16yrs old.
I am 160cm or 5’2.5".
Using a Polar heart rate monitor everyday I burn on average 2000 – 2100 calories a day because I lead a reasonably active lifestyle and do regular exercise. I understand I need to eat a minimum of 1200 calories a day. If I eat 1200 calories and burn 2200 calories (during the time I wear my HRM which is 8am – 9pm). Will I lose approximately 1kg or 2.2lbs a week? I want to do this the healthy way. Would this put my body into starvation mode? If I follow this will I be sucessful? What changes can or should I make to this?
Thanks

i am sure that a Heart Rate Monitor would be fairly inaccurate cuz it doesn’t know why my heart rate is up… unless you burn tons of calories wen you get scared, excited or any other kind of adrenaline rush. I am looking for something that i can wear all day that will let me know how many calories i am burning currently weather exercising, watching tv, playing Wii, or typing etc. and also keep a running tally for the day. or if that’s not realistic, you know would cost a million bucks, then maybe a HRM that measures even when HR is low
Wow!! i read up, and now i want a BoddyBugg… but the initial cost is way outa my price range.. does anyone want to get rid of one?
never mind about getting rid of one i see the program fee is where the cost is 9 but thanks any how :)

Heart Rate Monitor?

I want to buy a heart rate monitor, but I dont want a polar, so lets forget about them. I pretty much just need one that counts calories, and cost less than 0. And it has to be one that takes your heartbeat the whole time you wear it, not the ones you have to put your fingers on. Anyone know of any?
I was just looking at a sportline, it was a touch hrm, and it said it counts calories burned. Do you have to hold your fingers on it the whole time your working out, or do you just put your fingers on it at the end of your workout and it somehow knows how many calories you burned.
I dont like polar because you have to send it in to get new batteries. Thats ridiculous.

Good morning,

I have been spinning for the past month and I love it. Everyone in my class has a heart rate monitor. I would like to get a HRM. So far I have dome research and I really like the features of the "POLAR F11". Would you recommend that for a HRM beginner? If not, I also like the "POLAR F7". If you spin, what HRM do you use, and does it work well for you?

Also, I am looking for spinning shoes. Is there anything special I should know when trying them on and looking for well priced items?

I would also use the HRM in personal training sessions, zumba classes, and swimming.

I appreciate your time and have a great day.
I have decided against Timex because our spinning monitors do not pick up Timex readings, but thank you for your input. I would use the HRM for more than just spinning class, but I understand where you are coming from. Thanks for the inputs on shoes… stiff sole and take notice of clipping/cleat style. Lastly, that is a wonderful idea of the moisture wicking socks = very smart!
Thank you for your input!
