www.facebook.com TRAINING ZONES Healthy Heart Zone (Warm up) — 50 – 60% of maximum heart rate: The easiest zone and probably the best zone for people just starting a fitness program. It can also be used as a warm up for more serious walkers. This zone has been shown to help decrease body fat, blood pressure and cholesterol. It also decreases the risk of degenerative diseases and has a low risk of injury. 85% of calories burned in this zone are fats! Fitness Zone (Fat Burning) — 60 – 70% of maximum heart rate: This zone provides the same benefits as the healthy heart zone, but is more intense and burns more total calories. The percent of fat calories is still 85%. Aerobic Zone (Endurance Training) — 70 – 80% of maximum heart rate: The aerobic zone will improve your cardiovascular and respiratory system AND increase the size and strength of your heart. This is the preferred zone if you are training for an endurance event. More calories are burned with 50% from fat. Anaerobic Zone (Performance Training) — 80 – 90% of maximum heart rate: Benefits of this zone include an improved VO2 maximum (the highest amount of oxygen one can consume during exercise) and thus an improved cardiorespiratory system, and a higher lactate tolerance ability which means your endurance will improve and you’ll be able to fight fatigue better. This is a high intensity zone burning more calories, 15 % from fat. Red Line (Maximum Effort) — 90 – 100% of maximum heart rate: Although this zone …

Let me fan the flame with some of my favorite provable truths. Yes, in my humble yet accurate and substantiatable opinion, the following statements are true • Flexibility is the least important component of fitness. • Dieting is one of the primary causes of obesity in America. • Losing weight actually decreases your body’s metabolic rate. • The activity which burns the highest percentage of fat is sleep. • The “Cardio Zone” burns more fat than the “Fat-Burning Zone.” • Stretching is a very dangerous form of warming up before exercise. • To gain muscle, you should stop lifting weights and work out less often. • Increasing aerobic exercise is associated with a decrease in metabolic rate. • Heart rate is, for many individuals, one of the worst indicators of exercise intensity. • High protein diets are often the cause of many of the major health-related problems in America. • Gaining weight initially is a very important indication that your exercise program is working as planned. • Aerobic exercise classes are much less aerobic than other aerobic activities …
In response to an e-mail about whether to take heart rate during interval cardio sessions. Here I give a simple illustration of how heart rate responds to intervals by comparing a “graph” of week one and week six of regular interval training.

The past 2 days all of a sudden my heart rate has increased alot. I can just be sitting watching TV and if it’s quiet enough I can hear my heart beating. If I go up stairs or something it increases a lot more. It’s really weird and annoying. I’ve never had this before. I also feel like I can’t catch my breath. Has anyone experienced this before? How long did it last..is this anything I can do to make it go away? I will add that recently–the past month–I changed my diet and have started eating MUCH healthier. I also started exercising..and maybe pushed myself a little too far. I had not exercised in quite a long time..and a couple weeks ago I ran for a long time. I don’t know if that would matter. Although the past week I haven’t worked out much at all. Anyway, any help is appreciated as I really DONT want to see a doctor. Thanks:)

i haven’t been watching my diet or exercising lately and i smoke. i do binge drink quite often so i do have a fast heart rate at times so with all that combined i figured i knew why.
i went out the other night and had way too much too drink. i wasn’t sick or headachey but my heart was really playing up, probably acute alcohol poisoning, had pins and needles, cold hands.
i know it was stupid of me when i was ill but i had a few tokes of a joint and it made me feel terrible, the bad symptoms above only occured after this. my heart was very irregular and VERY fast, very heavy. i felt ok after a day of drinking water and sleep.
the next day i had a few tokes, and by a few tokes i literally mean about half a joint, if that, then felt exactly the same.
i just wondered why that was? ive smoked weed for a long time and its never had that affect. could it be the type of weed or is my body just telling me to give it a rest and get healthy?
i’m only 19 and i move to university tomorrow and i’ve decided to stop smoking weed completely and cut out the cigarettes as a daily thing but i know i’ll probably still drink and smoke on nights out.
does what i explain sound like a serious health problem?
i hope i’m just overreacting, but i’ve had a worrying couple of days.
I’ve been trying to work out 4-5 days a week for about an hour a day. My 5 year old son is always running around seeming to purposely get in my way. I try to make him understand that when I tell him to get out of the way it’s not to be mean, but so I won’t bump into him, kick him, or hurt him in any way while doing my exercise moves. I’ve tried keeping him busy with something else, but it never works. I’ve tried the kid workouts they have on Exercisetv on demand, but he gets bored with those. I’ve tried letting him exercise with me using my workouts but he always wants to get right under foot. I tried teaching him that each of us needs our own exercise space, but no matter where I move to get out of HIS way he jumps right in front of me to get in mine. The majority of the time I can’t even get my heart rate to a good pace during cardio because I’m constantly having to stop. I watch my diet and already run around with him outside, pick him up swinging him around while playing, and all of the "every day activities" that the pros suggest to exercise with kids, but I think I have a naturally slow metabolism(even though I’m only 25) because I never see results from these activities, which is why I think I need this extra workout. My husband works 5pm until 7am and sleeps until 1pm, then I have to work 4pm-9pm, my son and I get home about 10pm. The time between my husband getting up and me going to work I have to fix lunch and take that time to clean up the house while he spends time with our son. The only child-free time I’d have to work out is around 11pm when my son is in bed, but by then I am so exhausted from the busy day that I can’t get motivated to do any kind of work out and I have to go to sleep by 12 to get enough rest to be up and start the day over at 7am the next morning. With all that said, does anyone have an helpful suggestions?
If I’m starting from scratch, never been a runner/jogger and have a good pair of running shoes and a heart rate monitor, will jogging/running produce weigh loss combined w/a good diet?
Just a little background, want to lose 50+ lbs, generally in good shape but I know running will kill me in the beginning. Just want to run a mile without stopping, and in a decent amount of time as my secondary goal. Should I try this or stick only to weight training to shed pounds?
It’s better to move around the whole day rather than working out really vigorously, and intensely hard for 45 minutes and then sitting on your butt for the other 23 hours? Also, when I do workout I tend to let my heartrate go down. I’ll rest for like 2 to 3 minutes before doing another set of reps of what I’m doing, not really challenging my heart rate. If I’m doing jerky movements like core exercises fast to keep my heart rate up then am I likely to have an injury? I was told this by doing fast movements such as situps, push ups, etc. Is working out for 45 minutes a day and sitting down watching TV and being idle for 23 hours not productive in burning fat or does it take more than that? My diet is fine though, that’s not even a topic…I know the right foods to eat.
Im within normal weight range for my height. I rejoined my gym in early April and since then, have gone up 4 pounds…I workout an hour cardio within my target heart range and do weight training and ab work for about 1/2 hour as laid out by a trainer. I burn about 700-800 calories according to my heart rate monitor…I consume 1250-1500 calories per day, a clean eating diet, no processed foods or white flours/sugars. HELP!!! I also notice that my abdominal area SEEMS more flabby…what the heck am I doing wrong???

I am 29 yr old female, and I have recently started working out 5 days per week (up from my normal 3). I have begun to lose weight and inches, and my fat percentage is slowly going down as well. I am doing 30 minutes of cardio and 30 minutes of weight/circuit training per workout. I am wearing a heart rate monitor to make sure I keep my rate up to where it should be for optimal weight loss. I get home and I am SO TIRED and I have trouble getting up the next morning as well.
Someone suggested adding protein shakes to combat the fatigue,
when do I have the shakes, how much and how often! I am looking to tone, not bulk up!!!
I am following a diet high in fruit and fiber, and lean protein. I usually avoid breads and grains, and I eat many times throughout the day. (I am certainly not starving!)
