Help, Please!?

I know you can buy pedometers and heart rate monitors, but can you buy something similar that can count calories burned?

If yes, what is that called?

Thanks!

I bought myself a heart rate monitor today: http://www.amazon.com/Sportline-Universal-Combo-Heart-Monitor/dp/B001O2KNGY

I began researching and found this calculator: http://www.braydenwm.com/calburn.htm —which takes usual measurements, plus a VO2 max measurement. I did an "HIIT-isized" spot jog at 1:3 (30 seconds:1m30 seconds) of sprints/jogs on the spot. My heart rate monitor had me topping 183BPM on sprints and bottoming 140BPM on my jogs. I did this for 40 minutes, and towards the end, I was bottoming around 150 on the jogs.

So I threw my information into this calculator and used a guessed VO2 of 45 (which is the said average for a sedentary male), averaged 175BPM for 10 minutes and got about 160 calories, and averaged 155BPM for 30 minutes and got about 390 calories. Other info: 157lbs, 20 year old male.

I was wondering about the accuracy of the method of using this information, primarily heart rate and VO2 max, and also was wondering if this particular calculator is any good?

Thanks!!
I was using the included chest strap for this workout as well. I also used the touch sensors as well; everything seemed pretty accurate.

Losing weight in a healthy way?

I have a calorie counter/heart rate monitor watch and it told me that in one day I burn about 4500 calories because I work at a warehouse and I also get home and workout for an hour. I’m training to lose weight for my BJJ tournament coming up. I eat approximately 1500 calories. Is 4500 too much or should I be burning more?

I went on some sites to check the accuracy of the watch and so far it’s gotten many 4 and 5 star ratings. So I guess it’s pretty accurate.
If you have any questions for me feel free to shoot me with it.

I started off my pregnancy 10-15lbs overweight so my doc recommended a moderate exercise program. It’s about an hour a day, 3-5 times a week, just watching tv and doing the elliptical. It’s really helped keep my weight gain normal (well, that and cutting out my nightly glass of white wine)!

Early in my pregnancy everything was fine, but lately however I’ve been getting a bit of a stink-eye from some other women at the gym. Today I got off the machine after an hour’s workout, and this older woman looked at my workout summary and said, bold as brass, "THAT’S not good for the baby you know." I’d gone for one hour and burned about 700 calories. I don’t think that’s so crazy and my heart rate was always under my 150bpm max. I replied, "thanks for the advice," and left.

Still, that irritated me. Not that I plan on paying any heed to random ladies at the gym over the advice of my doctor, but what’s with the flak? I am working out properly, not insanely, and although my baby bump is now pretty noticeable I do see other pregnant ladies there working out, just like me. I would have thought people would applaud pregnant women for keeping fit!

Ok so I hav ea heart rate monitor the one where it comes with a watch and a little belt thing to go around your chest. Its no any kind of name brand I bought it from Fred Meyer’s it was like 30$ or something. so I don’t know how accurate it is. I am 23 5’4" and weigh 140 lbs. my bmi is 24.1 fat percentage is 36 ish. thoes are just off a website so ? well when I wore the heart rate monitor I jogged at 4.5mph on treamill for 25 min. whith a 4 min warmup walk. the treamill counter said I burned 300 calories but my heart monitor said I burned 500 cal…thats a big difference. Which one is more accurate and why ??
my husband says to just use the lower one to know for sure I’m burning enough but I just want to know what is most accurate..cause 200 cal, thats alot.
my treadmill doesn’t have an age or weight input. its older I guess I bought it from the calssifieds.
But my heart monitor does.

High Intensity vs. Low Intensity?

I got a really nice heart rate monitor recently and have been using it during different types of workouts to see how they vary. I know what high and low intensity training generally means, but I don’t really know all the schematics of them. I just always thought that the harder you work yourself during a workout, the more calories you burn…but that’s not necessarily what my heart rate monitor tells me.

I do cardio workouts every morning, but I alternate between HIIT and LIIT. One day I will get on the elliptical and go 3 or 4 minutes intervals that keep my heartrate between 120 and 150; I do this for 45 minutes. Then the next day I have a spin/cycle class I go to that incorporates the HIIT that keeps my heartrate above 160 or so; this is also a 45 minute workout. So after doing this for the past week or so I have noticed that on the days I have my low intensity workouts, I only burn within 100 calories less then I do on the days I have the high intensity workouts.

Can someone tell him how that works? I mean on the days I’m on the elliptical I almost feel like it’s too easy and I’m wasting my time….but then when I’m at my spin class I’m sweating up a storm! How are the caloric results so close?

I’ve searched the internet a bit and found that a lot of people believe what I had originally thought; that higher intensity equals higher calories burned. But this is proven to not be the case and that both high and low intensity training burns about the same. But can someone tell me how this works??
***I understand that heart rate monitors can’t be 100% accurate, but if the figures are consistently that close together; that should be a close indication of what it really is. It wouldn’t make sense that the actual numbers would be opposite extremes….the LIIT calories burned are actually a lot lower and the HIIT calories burned are actually a lot higher? Where is the logic in that? And I would like to hope that my 0 heart rate monitor is AT LEAST going to give me a good estimate….

Calorie Counting?

I walk, workout everyday, and bike everyother day. I have a pedometer, and I have a counter on my bike too. Is there something I can get that will count the calories I burn all day, instead of just when I am walking or biking. I want something that will count them when I am working out of just watching tv. People have told me to get a heart rate monitor, but if you wear it 24/7, the batteries die very fast. I wanted to get a Polar F6, but you have to send them in to replace the batteries. Is there any device out there that would work. Thanks.

VEGAS I have no clue what your post means lol.
I guess I will have to ask this during the daytime maybe. People must not be reading the qestions. I know how to lose weight ive lost almost 200 pounds. I didnt ask how to lose weight !

I am tring to determin what my activity level is in order to determin my calorie target for weightloss. 3 days a week I am at the gym 2 hours each day. During that time I burn 1100-1400 calories. This is determined by my polar ft80 heart rate monitor. When Im not at the gym I take care of my two year old and do simple house hold chores and run errands; Im allso a full time student and at night I sit on my butt and do home work. Im looking to loose around 30 lbs. Here are my specs and the options the calorie counter has given me to choose from.

Is working out 4 times a week enough to lose weight?

I really don’t have much time for more than that. I work out hard on the elliptical for an hour, four times a week and keep track of my heart rate with a Polar monitor. I also watch my calories. So far, my progress has been depressingly slow, but I figure, the slower it comes off, the longer it will stay off. Can I expect to lose weight (I’m shooting for 25-30 lbs) over 6 months by following this plan?

Does anyone own a Polar Fitness Monitor watch-F6?

I got this as a gift and it came with a T317 Transmitter-do I have to use the chest strap in order to read my calories burned?
(I don’t care about monitoring heart rate….)

What is a good target heart rate to burn calories?

I am getting a heart rate monitor today. What should my heart rate be in order to burn more calories. Isn’t it the higher heart rate the more calories you burn?
My normal heart rate is around 100. its a little on the high side sometimes.
Do you recommend any certain heart rate monitor? I don’t wanna spend over 40.00

Is my weight loss plan ok?

I have 7 weeks and 7kg to lose until i meet my goal weight.
I am 62kg or 137lbs.
I am 16yrs old.
I am 160cm or 5’2.5".
Using a Polar heart rate monitor everyday I burn on average 2000 – 2100 calories a day because I lead a reasonably active lifestyle and do regular exercise. I understand I need to eat a minimum of 1200 calories a day. If I eat 1200 calories and burn 2200 calories (during the time I wear my HRM which is 8am – 9pm). Will I lose approximately 1kg or 2.2lbs a week? I want to do this the healthy way. Would this put my body into starvation mode? If I follow this will I be sucessful? What changes can or should I make to this?
Thanks

Can I lose 10 pounds in 5 weeks?

Ok, I am now 115 pounds, and my height is 5’5. I know that you may say that I don’t need to lose any weight..but I have been 105 pounds my whole life (i’ve been active, and eat healthy..and eat ALOT)

Well, I just went to college this past year, and…I’ve gained 10 pounds of pure fat! I don’t know what happened!! I have never gained weight like this before..I use to be thin with muscle..now I have lost my muscle, and am kinda chubby. I think that I gained weight becuase of excess stress..and junk food. Now, I’m going to be coming home from school soon..and I’ll be pretty embarressed with this weight that I’ve gained. I have 5 weeks left…can I lose the 10 pounds? I think that I burn 1500 calories a day..how much should I eat? I also run/walk on the treadmill every day for an hour (i have a polar heart rate monitor, at it says that I burn 500 calories…)

Please help..I really want to get back to me! (it seriously is depressing me..)

I used to have a RHR of 75-90bpm. I have been doing aerobic exercises (treadmill, elliptical, stepper) at least 2 hours a day for the past month. Does this mean that my heart rate has slowed down because my heart is now stronger? Or that only goes for long time athletes?

Checking my Polar heart rate monitor, I used to burn 2,000+ calories with or without workout. But now, I need to do about 4 hours of aerobic exercise just so I could reach 2,000 calories. Just yesterday, I was walking around the mall the entire day and I only burned 800+ calories because my heart rate was only 75 tops. Is this normal???

Cold water training dangerous?

I’ve been training to tolerate icy cold water by going into my sauna and getting my heart rate up to 160-170 and immediately dunking my whole body in an icy bath tub.

I wear a heart rate monitor. I have a dry sauna and a soaker type bath tub. I fill up the tub with cold water and put 3-4 40# bags of ice in it to make it icy cold. I tried putting epsom salt to make it colder but for some reason it does not make it colder.

I find that my heart rate very quickly drops down to sometimes almost in the 30-40 beats. I can stay under water for a long time doing this.

It makes me feel good and invigorated after wards although I’m cold as hell and shivering.

Question is am I doing harm to myself? Is this a good training method? I imagine I use up a lot of calories doing this.
Do the Navy Seals do this?

Calories in and out. Fitness gurus please help?

Calories. nutrition, fitness gurus help needed.?
Hi. I am 20 years old. 177 pounds. I am 4 months post partum. I was 226 pounds when I started. I lift 4 times per week and do cardio 5 days per week. I use a POLAR heart rate monitor and it says I am burning 700-900 calories per workout. I usually lift and do 5 sets. reps are as follows. 12,10,8,6,12 then superset with a second exercise for the same muscle. I do upper/lower body splits made mostly of compoud exercises. I am currently eating 1780 calories with a 40/40/20 macro split. I eat very clean. When I began my new eating regimen I started with 2100 calories, nothing happened then I dropped it again 200 calories gained 8 pounds. Then I recently switched to 1780 and I dropped 10 pounds! The 8 + the 2! I just want to make sure I am not burning too many calories and I am fueling up enough to continue losing weight. I was losing great until June then I hit a wall. Stuck with it just changed my diet numbers again and bam I dropped. I am not looking to be a certain weight or size by a certain time, I just want to make sure I am doing this the right way and making progress
clean eating. no refined sugar, no alcohol, whole grains, veggies, low gi fruits, I always have breakfast and my other 5 meals throughout the day. Its not very hard or limiting. I make the food I like but cleaner. It response to snowboard, I know fat doesnt turn into muscle but you still have to build muscle to burn more calories. You don’t have to do a ton of mindless cardio to lose weight it is a good balance of aerobic and anaerobic activity. I enjoy lifting and I will continue to do it. Also not sure if I added I do a ton of body weight exercises and pilates. Push ups, pull us, dips etc. I try to change my workout all of the time and always looking for a new challenge. I am very educated in fitness, I am just having trouble getting my calorie numbers right. :)
I changed up to upper/lower split 2 weeks ago. Prior to that I was working different body parts on different days bad idea. My strength shot through the roof but not much of anything else. The upper/lower split is from BFL but the diet is not from the zone diet. I looked it up and the Zone is less carbs, more fat. Any other suggestions calories wise? Anyone know how many calories they burn per workout?

Taking Glucophage for weight loss?

I’m very overweight (obese would be the technical term). I’m 5’4" and 194 lbs and I’m 22… this is the heaviest I have ever been (the most I ever weighed before this was 152 lbs… my normal weight is 110-125lbs) I was diagnosed with an underactive thyroid earlier this year, but that has since been corrected with Synthroid. My doctor prescribed me Glucophage a couple of days ago to help me get a head start, since the extra weight I am carrying is making exercise more difficult and raising my heart rate (resting heart rate is in the mid to upper 90′s and I can top out at 183 when at a slight jog).
I was wondering what kind of side effects I can expect, how long it will take to work, and any other tips regarding the medication would be helpful.

P.S.
Also, I have been watching what I eat, exercising 3x a week as of right now (it would be more often if not for my heart rate), calories have been cut, and I am eating healthy foods (fast food has been cut out completely, and carry-out has been 95% eliminated). This has been prescribed ONLY for a short period to give me a kick-start on my weight loss before I have any serious complications from the weight. So please, no comments regarding laziness bc I am choosing to take these at the recommendation of my physician… I am taking an active role in getting my weight down, and I value my long-term health and would rather deal with a few tolerable side-effects for a couple of months if it helps me get to the point that I can simply watch what I eat and exercise without difficulty. I’m not trying to take an easy out. Thanks!

Running with a heart rate monitor- HELP?

I just finished my morning workout (treadmill power walk/jogg for 65 mins). The treadmill showed that I burned 349 calories and my HRM (Polar F11) showed 620 calories. Is my HRM off or the treadmill counter is off. I made sure the settings on my watch are correct. I am a female, 5′ 5”, and 144 lbs. Any suggestions??

what is a good heart rate range while working out?

i bought a heart rate monitor to wear while working out and in the book it says this is what it should be
mas hr 195
light intensity 97-117
light to moderate intensity 117-136
moderate to heavy intensity 136-165

which is not a problem for most but my problem is that my resting heart rate is between 93-99 which puts me into the light intensity level just sitting at times so are the numbers from above still correct based on my resting heart rate

also i am extremely overweight (5ft 3in and 268 lbs) and i need to get it off and i have tried and tried but i always fail so if anyone can share any other helpful advice i would appreciate it
I watch what i eat and count calories(1600) and the weight never goes down

Fat Burning Heart Rate for Fat Loss

What is the optimum heart rate for burning fat and is it really that important?

I want to get a heart rate monitor that also shows calories burned. I found this one online, but was skeptical because it doesn’t use a chest strap. I don’t want a chest strap, so this seemed perfect. I just want to get some feedback before purchasing.

I got a garmin forerunner 50 wrist watch that records my heart rate, speed, cadence, calories, time and distance ran. I have about 6 workout sessions of data downloaded to my computer.

What do I do with the data? I am a new runner and I don’t know how to analyze the data to help me.

Yeah, i know max heart rates, and to exercise in the 60% to 80% percent zone.

Is their some type of software that can analyze this data and give me suggestions on how to improve my workouts?
Anyone have any insight?
