I wear a heart monitor when I climb the stairs here. When I first started my heart rate was reaching 190. In the two weeks since I started, it has steadily decreased. Last night I added an extra 14 floors to the 28 i normally do (go up to 14, then down to 1, up to 28, then down to 1) and my heart rate barely got over 170. Is this normal as my body gets used to the exercise or is it something that I should really be worried about because my heart isnt keeping up anymore?

I bought my girlfriend a Garmin Forerunner 50 with foot pod and heart rate monitor for Christmas. She will be studying abroad in Denmark next semester, and I’d like to know if the foot pod (GPS enabled to track distance) will work there. I know some other Garmin products only work in the US unless you pay extra. Does anyone know if this is the case with the Forerunner 50?
It was the livestrong challenge in philly. The course had a good bit of hills. My monitor seemed to be keeping time and mileage accurately. This just seems high but I have never gone quite this long so not sure if its normal.
When I am standing the beats per minute shows to be normal at 80. When I lie down it goes to 200 at times. This shows that it doesn’t work properly when I am lying down. And can I use it while doing plyometrics? And I am 15 years old.
The new Polar RCX5 heart rate monitor is a multi-sport watch with no peers. It offers dual frequency transmission to allow fro heart rate during swimming and comes equipped with the finest Polar sensors to give incredibly accurate running and biking data.
I have narcolepsy and fall asleep very easily. Give me a text book and a quiet library and I’m out. I need a device that could help with this.
I had found a page that showed that there were patents out for a device intended for vehicle drivers who might be at risk of falling asleep at the wheel that would monitor the heart rate or something and shock the user to wake them. Finding something like this to buy is difficult.
Anybody know of something similar and where to buy it?

I am obese (256 pounds) and also just joined a gym. I am going to meet w/ a trainer and they will tell me how much cardio to do. I can get one of these for , is it worth the investment for someone like me? I plan on going about 4 X a week to the gym ,
My max heart rate for my body size/female is 194 (or so the websites say). I purchased a hr monitor and wear it during my 60 spinning class. I believe I’ve calculated my resting hr to be around 62 but it is VERY easy to get my hr up. I have definitely gotten it up into the 190s during spinning class (it is rigorous though) but even walking into the gym, doing strength training, etc. gets it up a little too high I think. The last spinning class I took, I monitored the girl’s hr watch next to me and mine seemed to be consistently 20 beats ahead the entire class. If I were to have my hr at the bpm she had, I wouldn’t feel like I got a good workout.
I understand a way to determine whether or not you are in shape is to see how quickly your hr goes down after exercising…but are there other ways also? Am I just completely out of shape because my hr goes up very quickly?
Thanks for the responses – I’ve been taking this spinning class (which are 60 mins long) for several months now…consistently for a year, maybe taking (at most) 1 month off. The problem is that it is only 1 day a week and on average I would maybe do only one other day of cardio during the same week. So I guess taking this intense cardio class only once a week isnt really doing much?
For example, a treadmill with a heart rate detector. The heart rate detectors, or pulse readers, on a treadmill usually has those metal handlebars where you grip it and reads your pulse. Now I am wondering, how is the pulse read? In other words, does the handlebar sense the beats? or is it something else? perhaps maybe electrical currents going throughout the body? and if it is electrical currents, what is it that detects the electrical currents (chip? name of sensor? something else?)?
I really want to get a gym membership at the sportsplex but I am very out of shape and obese(200lbs and 5’1"). The sportsplex offers 3 free sessions with a personal trainer with the membership, but I am afraid that I will make a huge fool out of myself during the workout with him/her.
It doesn’t take much to make my heart rate go up to 150-175bpm while exercising, and I’m afraid that it might be too high…I really want and need to lose weight, but am embarrassed to go to a gym.
The personal trainer does 3 sessions of circuit training, what will that involve? Am I too fat to work out at a gym and what are some tips for working out in the gym when you are overweight?
I also love the stationary bike, if I do 30 minutes of that 3 days a week, will it help me lose weight(while monitoring my calories)?

from 220 back to asystole; then works periodically again. i wet the thing well and try to readjust which used to help sometimes but now that doesnt work anymore. i run in the bush not near others or any electrical boxs. problem began approx 3 weeks ago. anyone else had this problem? id love a solution. a little reluctant to send it away as it will take forever to comeback and im a 4 time a week runner and need the numbers for motivation. thankyou fellow runner.
I would like to buy a fetal heart rate monitor. I had a miscarriage before and currently I am 12w3d and a high risk pregnancy. So I really want to be able to know everything is okay rather than waiting two weeks to see a doctor.
Which brand is best? Any advice on what to look for?
