Higher heart rate than training?

I have been training my aerobic fitness for the past few months to help my tennis game. So I played my first tournament last weekend and I put on the heart rate monitor so I could gauge my heart rate and my heart rate was already in the 160s. I was alittle nervous and excited to be playing, but normally my heart rate is below 100 before activity. Even once I got warmed up and into the match my heart rate never recovered. Could be be due to nerves alone? I played a 2 hour match and never got fatigued and my legs felt fresh, so the training seemed to help but surely it would be even better if my heart rate didn’t start out that high?

Thanks for your time and any advice you have!
Also if it maybe nerves any tips to address that?

Why is it not working :(?

I am 20, 5’8" and 14 stone.
I am doing Jillian Michaels workouts at the moment. I have all her DVD’s and her biggest loser ones too and I do them all in rotation so my body doesnt become used to a specific exercise routine.
I exercise 6, sometimes 7, days a week. I eat a healthy diet and never above 1300 calories per day.
I bought a heart rate monitor yesterday and used it with her 40 min "banish fat boost metabolism" workout which is all cardio. It told me I had burned 400 calories and 1.82 ozs of fat. I don’t know whether this is good or not?
Also, since doing these workouts my legs have got rock solid…it’s brilliant! They’ve really toned up. But I don’t seem to be losing any weight on the scales…or toning up anywhere else on my body. It seems to just be my calves, quads and hammys. My inner thighs are still flabby. As is my stomach and arms and I still have back fat (by the way I have been working out for 3 weeks now). I would have expected to see a little more improvement than what I have? Why am I not losing weight or toning up anywhere but my legs?

Mild chest pain at random times. Why?

I am a 27 year old male and consider myself healthy. I exercise often. In the past 3 months I have started to have slightly mild chest pain in the heart region. This does not occur while I run or excercise but majority of the time while I am sitting down watching tv. When the mild pain occurrs it is tolerable however makes me feel uncomfortable. I would rate the pain a 3 on a 1-10 scale (10 being the worst). I have never had a physical or checked my cholesterol but I am not overweight and again I excerise frequently. Please help me with this question.

Should I be concerned?

Does it give you a better reading or something?

How many calories do I burn on a stationary bike?

When I put the figures of my workout into online calculators I get between 700-900 calories per hour. However, the bike says more like between 200-300 calories per hour. So, I went and bought a heart rate monitor. Last night I did 50 minutes on the bike (workload set to 10 pedal speed above 100 the whole time) and my HRM said I burned 803 calories in 50 minutes. So what do I believe? The HRM and all of the online calculators or the stationary bike itself? I know it sounds crazy because I should believe the HRM and the online calculators since they are all basically around the same. Just would like some other opinions I guess.

Hey all im starting to go for some longish distance runs to get fitter for soccer as i play midfield. Do you reccomend getting a heart rate monitor? Also what type just a watch type? Cheers

I was at the Consumer Electronics Show last week where I decided to film a quick episode to lay out a bit of information on heart rate training. I was helping out Scosche Industries www.scosche.com demonstrate their new Scosche myTREK. At CES, I rode a bike and gave demonstrations on the pulse rate monitor that syncs up with an iphone or ipod touch. Heart rate tracking is important for many reasons while you are working out. As your heart rate goes up, you burn different fuels. Low heart rate zones equal high percentages of fat burning, while higher zones equal lower fat burning %, yet higher glycogen burning zones along with high energy phosphates (ATP, Creatine Phosphate) while in your highest zones. With the Scosche myTREK, you can track all these zones and make sure you are in the exact one you want to be in. You can even get a voice prompt in your ears to go harder or ease up all while listening to your favorite music.

Quick video to show you how to setup your heart rate monitor for the 1st time to your forerunner. It’s important to do this at home, so that you won’t pick up other HR monitors if you run with a group.

I want to use it for counting calories burned during jumping rope and Wii Fit.

I used to go jogging (but it was probably actually running) and after I did it I experienced the ‘runners high’ quite regularly. Recently I purchased an exercise bike and have been doing more reading about how much aerobic exercise I should be doing. Now, I haven’t done it for a while but I started doing it only because I had some digestion problems (abdominal pains after eating) and they have improved a bit since doing the exericse.

According to what I have read I decided to be doing it at 3-4 times a week at 75% of my heart rate and also strength training twice a week for at least 40 minutes to balance it out. One thing that seems consistent in what I read is that you should do slightly more cardio than strength training and this makes a lot of sense and is best for overall fitness. But the problem is I’ve read a couple of places (including the american heart association) that the amount of aerobic I’m doing (which is classified as ‘moderate’) is enough however, since riding my exercise bike I’ve never exerienced the high I get from more intense session (I tried a higher level once and tried to get to 95% of my heart rate -there’s a pulse monitor on my bike- and even though I didn’t get there I felt the high that time) and so I’m concerned I’m not working out intense enough.

I’ve read something today, that if you increase the amount of time- say from 35 minutes to 50 minutes and lower the intensity to make up for the increase in time you will actually lower your cardiovascular fitness. This makes a lot of sense as well. Because intensity is actually very important for strengthening the heart muscle. I don’t want to work out too hard because I want to get the balance right with the strength training I’m doing as well. I’m thinking of changing it to eventually aim for about 40-50 minutes (3 days a week) of ‘vigorous’ as opposed to ‘moderate’ to really get the benefits. Does this sound ok? Or is it too much. It sounds pretty reasonable aim. My main aim is to improve my aerobic fitness and also get stronger in terms of muscle. Is working out at 95% of your heart rate for 50 minutes straight even possible?? I know it’s possible for 75% because I easily do it for 35 minutes. I have also read you can get bowel problems if you run too much (over 90 minutes) and marathon runner experience this. So, I obviously don’t want this to happen either. Anyway, I’m sorry for the length of this and I apologise for being pedantic or sounding like some loser.

thankyou immensely if you if you took the time to read it and I would appreciate answers a lot (preferably from people that are fit and have some personal experience and genuine knowledge).
p.s I do currently 40 minutes of aerobic 3-4 times a week.

I am a 23 year old male. Still a little out of shape. I recently lost 60 lbs.

I am now 170-175 lbs (5’10").

I bought a heart rate monitor (one that straps to chest) and calculated my calories burned while running/walking.

I ran and walked for 1:37. My typically setup is, I start off walking for 5 minutes. I then run a mile at 6.3 MPH, then walk another .20 miles, run a mile at 6.8 MPH, walk another .20 miles, run a mile at 7.3 MPH, walk another .20 miles, then run a mile at 7.8 MPH. Peak heart rate is 179 BPM. Average heart rate is 140.

I then walk for around 15 minutes, then I hit the indoor track and run another mile in ~ 10 minutes.

My heart rate monitor says my "fat burn" time is 44:04 and my "fitness" time is 53:29.

I burned 1139 calories in that session according to my monitor.

I do that workout I just listed 3-4 days a week, Monday, Wednesday, Friday (and maybe Saturday) and sometimes I run ~ 2-3 miles on Sunday.

I also do a spinning class twice a week. The spinning class is a total killer for me. I never sweat like that when I run. My heart rate is almost always > 180 for usually the entire hour.

I am going to wear my heart rate monitor one day to spinning to see what it says, but I was just wondering, how many calories do you think I burn in a spinning class? (Usually a Mix of starting endurance, ending strength then 15 minute cool down with a final sprint, or maybe a pyramid.

It seems like my running calories burned is really high. I read people say they burn "700 calories in spinning…" I feel wrecked after spinning, nothing like running. What do you think?

Ok, if you have followed my other questions, you will see that I have suffered from disordered eating. NO I am not underweight! But, YES I am very unhealthy! And today was a time to change! I have been watching UndergroundWellness on Youtube, and I DO believe that low-carb diets are a healthy way to go! So, what do I eat? I need to eat lots of proteins! Since, now, I am going to really hit the exercise! I’m going to get in shape! I feel so empowered! And I’m sick of starving myself! I’m sick of feeling sick! So:
- ONE What foods (low-carbs) should I eat?
- Are smoothies that healthy? (I drink them for fruit! And they do seem to have a lot of carbs!)
- Good Carbs! Bad Carbs???
- What should I eat for protein (I seem to do better with proteins, so what metabolic rate is that?)
- Metabolic rates?

Yes, I don’t know to much about foods. When I starved myself, I thought mostly of fats and calories! So, please HELP!

So, I think my metabolism is MESSED up, what can I do to start boosting it, or have I just ruined it?

AND, what type of exercise should I get. I know you need CARDIO CARDIO CARDIO, because it’s heart healthy, and burns fat. BUT, I heard that if you DON’T weight train, and you fall out of you cardio workout for a bit, you can find your metabolism slowing down, and packing on the pounds! So, what type of strength training should I do. How much weight?

Oh, and I want to know what you think about my day…(So far)

Breakfast-
2 eggs *scrambled
3 slices of bacon

Lunch- (We just HAD to stop by BK)
6 piece chicken tender nuggets
Apple fries
Diet Coke

Snack-
Fruit smoothie
(Just ice, 2 oz of 100% juice, non-fat yogurt, and strawberries)

Plus

Exercise:

walked 2 miles at incline (When it was 90 degrees out)
Rode my bike to miles
And I lifted some weights, crunches, lunges, and what not!

Sorry this is so long! BTW I am 5’3” and 13 years old. So please help me, help myself, get help, and get healthier ;)
